summary Unfortunately the 'Town Heat' project has been put on hold since 2005 due to lack of time and also motivation to finish what has become my biggest script writing experience so far. The demo alone, with 130 possible decisions to make depending on the chosen path and 60000 words was complicated to code. Considering I would have to work four times as hard to write the complete game my dedication to the project started fading away. Maybe one day the game will be finished. Who knows? Anyway, here is a brief summary of what I wanted 'Town Heat' to be. 'Town Heat' is an interactive fiction game in the style of ren'ai (Japanese word for love and romance). Some people actually call these type of games dating simulations. But this particular project was going to be a little different because I wanted to experiment with some additional features. The game starts out as a typical life simulation, but in fact, a difficult task awaits the player. There has been a lot of trouble in town recently. People misteriously disappear. Everyone who's been long enough around is sad (except Aki who just moved to live in the area) and the air is filled with hatred. Who's doing this? Why is everyone so sad? Who's trying to control people minds? At first everything looks all right, but then it becomes apparent that in reality none of the people the player meets are happy. Depending on the chosen path he will meet and talk to 9 main characters. These are Reiko, Aki, Mio, Ryoko, Yuki, Keiko, Arisa, Kenji and Hiroaki (7 girls and 2 boys). Moreover there are also less important characters like the bad boys forming a gang, sellers and ordinary people just passing by. The demo includes 3 female characters and 1 male character the player can interact with. It's size is about 25% of the whole script. The main objective of the demo is to make one of the female characters the player's girlfriend. Will you be able to solve the mystery of this town? Will you be able to help your childhood friend Reiko find his best friend Yuki? Will you be able to make one of these girls your girlfriend? Accept the challenge and find out... 
screenshots Just a few screenshots here (animated backgrounds for the first and the 4th one). Most background photos used in the demo come from the stock.xchng and the morguefile free photo web sites. Some special backgrounds were made by me. 
system specs Note: Minimum system memory requirements have risen to 64MB RAM on Win98 (128MB on WinXP) and DirectX7. Recommended memory requirements are twice as high with DirectX9. The game is planed as freeware and will be rated 16+ (suitable for persons aged 16 years and over due to mildly vulgar content). demo download Town Heat demo v1.00b (16MB).
